Nicknamed the Switzerland of America, the mountain town of Ouray is nestled among the San Juan Mountains in the Western Slope of Colorado, offering visitors convenient access to a wide range of mountain recreation activities. Designated as a National Historic District, Ouray is rich in history and cultural experiences. Visitors can learn about the mining heritage of this former gold and silver district at the Bachelor-Syracuse Mine and the Ouray County Museum. The town also boasts a vibrant arts community with more than a dozen galleries and studios in the downtown district. The waters of the municipal Ouray Hot Springs Pool continues to draw visitors as does the highly-visited Box Canyon Falls and Park, which features a stunning canyon waterfall, suspension bridges, picnic areas and an interpretive center. Visitors will find Ouray's location ideal for exploring the San Juan National Forest and the nearby towns of Telluride, Ridgway, Silverton, Montrose and Durango.
